Design Features intricate designs within the jersey and graphics to represent different aspects of Pittsburgh The astroid: The iconic shape represents Pittsburgh’s history in the American Steel Industry. For decades, Pittsburgh was at the center of the steel industry and innovation, proving that innovation and engineering are at the heart of the city The check: A reference to the graphic that appears on the seal of the city. More than that, it is also a reference to performance. When talking about how steel itself has managed to evolve, carbon fiber has been used to improve performance The three rivers: The ‘Y’ shape is a nod to the Allegheny and Monongahela meeting the Ohio River. This was a point of inspiration for the print because aside from being iconic to the city, it’s the riverfronts that have truly evolved during this time of innovation and technology, and shaped a new look for Pittsburgh. Water as one of the key components to life serves as a showcase of the revitalization of the city along its riverfronts The bridge: The pattern inside the PGH graphic on the front of the jersey pays homage to the circular grates built into the windows of the pillars on the Clemente bridge, named after the man who truly exemplified the Pittsburgh spirit. The Roberto Clemente Bridge also connects Pittsburgh to PNC Park, home of the Pirates. The PGH graphic in a structural font is meant as a nod to the city's bridges The sleeve has the patch of the Pirates ‘P’ Short sleeve, button front jersey with authentic decoration and trim Stretch mesh gussets under arms for enhanced range of motion Standard fit Style and Team Spirit Heat Seal Twill team and player graphics Nike® swoosh logo Official MLB® batter man logo Technology Cool Base™ performance technology with interlocking moisture-wicking fabric allows a lightweight, breathable feel On-Field technology worn by players Additional Details Officially licensed product

More About Dick's Sporting Goods at Liberty Center

DICK’S Sporting Goods was founded in 1948 when an 18 year-old Dick Stack was working at an Army surplus store in Binghamton, New York. An avid fisherman, Dick was approached by the store owner to come up with a list of products needed to get into the fishing tackle business. After Dick presented his suggestions, the owner told him he was a dumb kid and had no idea what he was doing. Dick was upset and promptly quit. He went to his grandmother’s house where he spent a lot of time as a kid and told her what had happened. Dick’s grandmother asked how much it would cost to build the store himself. Dick said it would cost $300. His grandmother then went to the cookie jar where she kept her life savings and gave him $300 and told him “do it yourself.” Dick used that money and his relentless work-ethic to open a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton. By 1958, he expanded his product line to include much of what you’ll find at DICK’S Sporting Goods today.
